What is Academic Anxiety? ๐Ÿค”โ“

Anxiety is one of the major concerns in our society today. However, academic anxiety is specifically affecting learners. If this is your first time hearing it, the term is not as bizarre as you thought. Academic anxiety can develop when a high level of worry intervenes with your concentration and memory on certain things, such as worrying that you will forget the notes you studied the day before your exam. In simpler words, it is the consequence of stress related to an overwhelming workload or high expectations of your grade.



Do I Have It? ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

The symptoms associated with academic anxiety are similar to the signs of anxiety disorder; either physically, emotionally or behavioural. Yet, it does have its twist where the symptoms can only happen when you are thinking or facing challenges that are related to the presence of your unbearable expectations on your studies.

The public should well understand the behavioural aspect of academic anxiety symptoms so we can reduce the impact together. You might be one of the victims of academic anxiety if you frequently refuse to go to school or attend your classes, you always claim to be sick to stay at home and missing school, you are having temper tantrums or feel irritated and often crying when you are overwhelmed with your studies responsibility.



How Do I Overcome It?

Just like other problems, there are tons of ways for you to deal with academic anxiety and its mess. The primary key in taking it down is you must always believe in yourself and stop questioning your potential before trying to work on solving the problem. If you have succeeded in doing the above steps, it will take you a walk in the park to perform the rest of the tips below.

  • Try to stay present

  • Always use positive affirmations with yourself

  • Forgive and allow yourself to learn from your failure

  • Focus on things that you can control

  • Treat yourself with positivity and maintain good self-care
